The evening of April 19, 2010 marked SME Rotary’s first visit as a Club to Feed My Starving Children in Chanhassen. SME members Lindsey, Katie, Leah, Jeanette, Chris and Rotary friend Logan, championed the packaging of nutrient rich food to support the efforts of the ever-successful Christian mission to send food to nearly 70 countries with over 2-4 million meals to Haiti alone. Feed My Starving Children maximizes 94% of its donations to support their food programs producing meals for $.19 each. Our team divided duties also networking with a visiting high school group and together, we packaged a total of 8,424 meals that will feed 23 kids for an entire year!

“Freezin’ for a Reason” indeed. SME Rotarians are taking the Plunge on Saturday, February 6 in Maple Grove’s third annual Polar Bear Plunge to benefit Special Olympics Minnesota. We invite all friends of SME Rotary to watch our inaugural Plunge and enjoy this exciting Minnesota winter tradition. The Plunge begins at 1:00 at Weaver Lake in Maple Grove – we hope to see you there!

SME Rotary is also looking for financial support of our team. $5, $15, $25 or more – your support of our efforts to improve the number and quality of athletic competitions for special needs athletes is commendable. To make a donation directly to the “South Metro Evenings Rotary Club” team please visit: http://tinyurl.com/yjw5xw3. In total, Maple Grove’s Plunge is looking to exceed the two year total of $139,000 and 700 Plungers in 2010. With your support, SME can do their part in achieving this goal!

February’s service event is sure to be a chilling success!
